Betsy Butler for Assembly, California's 50th Assembly

from betsy butler

Dear Neighbor:

Welcome to my web site. I am running for re-election to the California Assembly, 50th District.

My first term in the state Assembly has been an exciting and humbling experience. When I ran for office in 2010, my goal was to fight for consumers, advocate for working families and protect the environment.

So far in my term, our state has faced one of the toughest economic realities in recent history. Balancing the budget, creating new jobs and protecting schools and law enforcement from proposed drastic cuts has been our highest priority.

In addition, I am particularly proud of the new landmark law I authored creating the Toxin-Free Infants and Toddler Act banning the use of Bisphenol-A (BPA) in baby bottles and sippy cups. By enacting this important new law, we have taken a vital first step to protect babies and toddlers from the harmful health effects of BPA.

My commitment to the environment spans my entire career, including the time I spent working for the California League of Conservation Voters and the Environmental Defense Fund. I pledge to continue my work protecting our coast and ensuring that our natural resources are preserved for future generations.

Today, I serve on the Board of Equality California and previously served as President of the National Women's Political Caucus (LA Westside Chapter) and as the Director of Development for Consumer Attorneys of California. I am dedicated to the fight for equality and justice.

As a resident of the coastal area of Los Angeles for more than twenty years, I have been active in local grassroots organizations promoting green and responsible development in neighborhoods and communities. I have worked closely with Sheriff Lee Baca on innovative ways to solve law enforcement issues and keep our communities safe.

California's future depends on a healthy economy. We need to continue job growth, particularly in emerging industries like clean energy, biotechnology and health care.

I appreciate the opportunity I've been given to serve in the State Assembly and am excited about running for re-election in the new 50th Assembly District. There is so much more I want to achieve to help working families, improve education, protect consumers and ensure that our elderly are safe and well cared for.

I look forward to sharing my ideas and experience in months ahead.

Sincerely,

Betsy Butler
Member of the Assembly
